Welcome!
Northwoods Book Arts Guild
is a community of artists actively learning about and creating artist books in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Guild promotes all aspects of book arts through education, participation in exhibitions, and community outreach.
NBG is affiliated with the North Star Community Foundation. The Foundation serves as our fiscal agent. All monetary transactions on our site, including membership and donations, are re-directed to the NSCF site in a new window.
Our Studio is located in the Caribou Building, Suite 205 at 3550 Airport Way, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709. “Paper Birches”, our cooperative supply inventory, is also located there, as are most of our classes and workshops.
NBG Program Meeting – 03.20.22 – Panorama Book
Join us as we expand our ‘toolbox’ of structures by creating a model for a Panorama Book, a continuation of our Guild’s exploration of Fabulous Foldables.
NBG Workshop: Gelli Printing & Panorama Foldable, 05.09-10.22
Play with your own Gelli plates, stencils, stamps, string, leaves, and other pattern-making materials as you cover papers with layers of acrylic painted monoprints.
NBG Workshop – Nag Hammadi Codex – 04.09.22
Dating back to the 3/4th century Egypt, the Nag Hammadi Codices are the earliest surviving Codex binding structures. In our model, we’ll be using authentic papyrus, handmade paste, and ethically sourced goat skin to replicate the traditional skills and materials originally used.
This workshop is designed for those with a keen interest in and curiosity of this special book structure.
NBG Workshop: Coptic Binding 03.05-06.22
Learn the fascinating technique of Coptic binding in this two-day workshop! An important hallmark of this binding is that it opens flat, so it’s a great way to create truly functional journals, notebooks and sketchbooks.
NBG Book Challenge
We’re keeping it local this year and holding our very own bi-monthly book arts challenge. How you interpret the theme, structure, and materials used is up to you! It can be as simple or as elaborate as you like, and can be a great way to stay motivated to make books throughout the year.
