On Saturday, June 27, 2015, from 10:00am to 4:00pm, Northwoods Book Arts Guild is pleased to host another great workshop, this one led by our own Laurel Herbeck. Laurel is currently an art teacher in the FNSBSD. She has been a practicing Fiber Artist for over thirty years. Her experience in fiber includes weaving on multi-harness looms, felting, silk fusing, batik, dyeing, spinning, knitting and shibori. She has taught numerous workshops and classes in fiber arts and book arts. Her recent work include silk books, woven scarves, and indigo dyed rugs.

Students will learn to make beautiful, colorful “papers” with raw and dyed silk, throwers waste and a variety of mediums. Papers can be used for books, accessories, jewelry, wall art, and a variety of other projects. They may be embellished with embroidery, beads, found objects and embedded with a variety of materials. Students will make 3-5 samples and receive instructions and a resource list.

Cost of the course is $60, with a $36 materials fee paid directly to instructor for supplies provided – please have cash or check ready at the beginning of the class. Register now at http://thefolkschoolfairbanks.org/event/sensuous-silk-paper/?instance_id=7386, as there is only room for ten lucky artists!
