Paper Birches, our Guild supply acquisition program, is expanding thanks to its new home in the NBG studio at The Folk School Fairbanks. With room to grow, we are able to provide a wider variety of bookmaking necessities. New in the supplies department are piercing cradle kits. These kits work up quite easily and provide excellent support when piercing a set of signatures to get them ready for sewing. Coming soon will be those wonderful measuring tools, the graduated metal edges. They almost take the math out of bookmaking! We are also looking forward to an order of linen tape, used in bookmaking since the Middle Ages. Summer is a good time to replenish your supply of PVA glue, as it does not like to freeze. We have plenty on hand and more coming. We are adding folder stock to our great paper supply. Along with book board, folder stock makes terrific covers. Ask a member to show you a book made during Margo’s UAF Summer Session class, “Sewing on Straps,” to see how it is done. Better yet, come to the next Open Book session, bring your latest projects to show, tell, and/or complete, and bring your latest favorite bookmaking tools!
