NBG Workshop: Concertina Album Binding
with Margo Klass
Saturday, October 26 10am – 4pm
$60 members $70 non-members
$15 materials fee
Limited to 8 participants
The concertina album binding elegantly holds a collection of images or photos. It looks like a traditional book, but opens out for display. In this class we’ll learn how to cut, fold, and hinge lengths of paper to make accordion-folded panels, cover boards with book cloth, inlay a cover plate, and join text block to cover structure. If you bring images to class, we will add them to the album.
Participants should bring the following to each class:
Cutting mat (18 x 24”)
X-Acto knife, bone folder
Pencil, eraser, scissors
Rulers (quilter rulers, clear plastic, several if you have them)
Graduated metal edges (optional)
Glue brush (stiff bristles, ¾ – 1” in diameter)
Glass jar for water
8 to 12 images (photos, sketches, or other images) – they will be cropped to maximum 4” H x 6” W (optional)
Instructor will provide book board, papers, book cloth, hinging material, PVA glue, MacTac, double stick tape, and extra tools to share.
