This class will provide an overview to the letterpress, including a brief history of Kelsey letterpresses, lead safety and how to find type in the California Case. Students will observe how to arrange type in a composing stick, lock type into a Chase, set guide pins, and get the press ready. Student will have an opportunity to operate the Kelsey Press, printing a chase set up by the instructor. Cleanup protocols and sorting type back into the California Case will be covered. The class will be held from 12-4pm at The Folk School Fairbanks.
