wordBirds

Create your own Word Bird, a paper machè character with something to say! Using newspaper, masking tape, wire, colored tissue paper, bits of map or old book pages, and a few feathers, you will create a bird ready to stand or hang, just in time for spring migration!

This is a beginning level 3D sculpture project. No previous experience with paper mâché is necessary. You will learn to make a simple form with newspaper and masking tape, then apply finish layers of torn papers, which may be colored tissue, maps, or pages from old books. If you are willing to roll up your sleeves and get your fingers into the goo (dissolved cellulose in a medium called “art paste”) there is no end to the fanciful forms you can create!
