This class is the first in a series of 3 Letterpress classes. It is a prerequisite for Letterpress II. Letterpress I is an overview of basic letterpress skills including the history and nomenclature of the Kelsey Press. Students will have hands-on experience setting & spacing type in a composing stick. Together, students will compose and prepare one “chase” of type and everyone will get to operate the Kelsey Press. Cleanup protocols and sorting type back into the California Case will be covered. Students will take home a printed letterpress piece on paper provided by the instructor. If you’re curious about the intriguing art of letterpress printing, this class is for you!
